Hottness on Ice: Olympic Curling’s Best Looking Ladies

February 18, 2010

Everyone knows (or at least they should have heard by now) that Lindsey Vonn is a great looking broad…if you need confirmation get the nearest issue of Sports Illustrated.

However, a sport that has proven to hold its own in the hottness-factor, not quietly if you have been watching any of it on TV, is curling. ThatFan took the liberty of capturing a few of the women melting the ice-bound shuffleboard for you.

Icy blue eyes.

Our first subject comes from Team USA. Nicole Joraanstad, 30, grew up in Seattle Washington and has a business degree from Wisconsin. She is the youngest, and hottest, member of the team and was introduced to the sport by her dad at age 15 (thanks dad, we all appreciate the effort). She has haunting blue eyes and handles big stones like a champion (there is your obligatory curling pun).

The elusive Canadian Ice Fox.

The cougar on the list is hottest skip (captain) on the list, Cheryl Bernard, 44, from Canada. Her first major win came when her team won the Olympic Trials for Canada (Curling is basically the No. 2 sport in the nation). She has everything a guy could want, athletic ability, she started her own business which she later sold, and she wants to start another business…being a home-maker is cool with me.

Half of a pair of aces.

Next up is actually a double entry of the Danish Dupont sisters, Denise, 26, and Madeleine, 23. The older sister – who speaks Danish, English, Swedish, German, and Norwegian – is involved. However, little sister – who only speaks a paltry English Danish and German – is single according to NBC Olympics. I am hitting the books: Wie gehts meine damen?

Very Ja.

Than there is Melanie Robillard, 28, from Germany. She is a law student in Brussels right now and apperently enjoys skiing, cycling, traveling and keeping fit. Well, she has done a good job on the last one. Overall, the German team is not all that eye-catching, which might aid Robillard’s hotness, but that can not be held against her…this isn’t figure skating.

What a great sport.

Finally, a pleasant addition to this group is 25-year old Japanese skip Moe Meguro. She kind of came out of nowhere and actually made me go to the computer to see the highlights to make sure that I didn’t miss her. If you want to impress her, tell her that her team leads the tournament (through two matches) with three ends of three points scored, while they have also stolen two ends without the hammer (oh, yeah…I’m in).

Joining these ladies, and the women’s downhill gold medalist, are the following Hot Olympians: Tanitha Belbin (figure skating), Lindsey Jacobellis (snowboarding), Gretchen Bleiler (snowboarding), Hannah Kearney (moguls), Chemmy Alcott (alpine skiing), Torah Bright (snowboarding), Erin Hamlin (luge), Alison Baver (short track speed skating), Bree Schaaf (bobsled), Amy Williams (skeleton), and Mellissa Hollingsworth (skeleton).

Did the good Doctor miss a hottie? Yell at Dr. Venkman now!

Very Da.

EDIT: In an effort to give the fans what they want (see below) here is a shot of Team Russia’s best representatives. On the left is former skip Lydmila Privivkova (spelled correctly), 24, and current skip Anna Sidorova, 19, on the right. As for information, they are both right handed.

The accent adds to the hottness.

ANOTHER EDIT: After watching some of the NBC bonus coverage than this young lady, Great Britian’s 19-year old skip Eve Muirhead, has to be included as well. She is a 4-handicap golfer and a bagpiper too according to the telecast and since she is from Scotland, I guess that really ratchets up the hottness. The golf thing definitely works on this side of the pond too.

Anna Kournikova Fan: “Do I Make You Horny, Baby?”

February 1, 2010

I don’t really follow women’s tennis, and to be honest, I don’t even think Anna Kournikova plays tennis anymore, but someone sent this video to us and I had to post it.  I couldn’t tell you when it was filmed but my guess is that its at least a few years old.  She’s still hot and the video is still funny, so who cares how old it is.

Around the 20 second mark you hear a fan in the crowd yell: “Hey Anna, do I make you horny, baby?”  I’m checking my sources to see if Austin Powers was present at this event but haven’t heard back yet.

See a funny fan-related sign, picture, video, or link? Send us a tip to info@thatfan.com!

Lucky Fan Gets to Tackle Lingerie Football League Player

January 21, 2010

I’ve heard whispers of this Lingerie Football League but I haven’t had the chance to check it out yet.  However, after watching this video I might become a season ticket holder.  They even wear garters while playing…how hot is that?

Apparently there is a way to win a contest that will allow you to “tackle” one of these Lingerie League players…I don’t have the slightest clue of how they pick the winners of said contest, but where do I sign up?  And can I enter more than once?  And wait, she even asked for a rematch?

By the looks of the guy who they chose for the contest I think they picked the guy that:  a) was the biggest nerd so that they didn’t cop any free feels, and b) looked the weakest so that not to hurt the girls when he tried to tackle them (the guy doesn’t have an athletic bone in his body, and he really struggled with that first tackle).  I mean come on, that guy didn’t even look like he was having fun!

So the guy in the red running the contests asks the crowd if he could tackle her…could you?  I know I could, I’d just be worried about the holding penalty that I know I’d get flagged for!

Green Bay Packers Fan Sign: Three Bikini Girls’ Wish List

January 19, 2010

Thanks to Jimmy in Green Bay for passing this one along.  These three lovely ladies (AKA Bikini Girls) were hoping the Green Bay Packers would make the NFL playoffs, win the NFC Championship, and then bring home the Lombardi Trophy by winning the Super Bowl.  They ended up with one out of three, so I hope they’re happy.  Maybe they can watch former Packer QB as a consolation prize?

See a funny sign held by a fan at a game? Send us a tip to info@thatfan.com!

Best ESPN College GameDay Signs from UCONN (1/16/10)

January 17, 2010

Editor’s note: You can now vote for your favorite sign shown below.  Click HERE to vote!

Yesterday was the first episode of ESPN College GameDay’s college basketball coverage. The show was live from Stoors, Connecticut, the site of the UCONN vs. Notre Dame women’s basketball showdown. This was the first time that GameDay has been at the site of a women’s game, and forgive us for saying this, hopefully the last. I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of women’s basketball, but if you are a fan of any sport then That Fan is a fan of you.

There are also a few different trends that we will cover with the basketball version. In football you have Corso’s headgear, but in basketball you’ve got Digger’s stunning silly tie/highlighter color combo, and the half-court shot for a scholarship (just an FYI, the half-court shot was missed, which makes nine episodes in a row without a winner).

There weren’t that many signs on the episode for a few reasons. First, the show was only an hour long, compared to two hours with the football version. Second, you are inside an arena rather than in a large area outside. And oh yeah, it was at a women’s game, which isn’t necessarily the hottest ticket in town. On to the signs!

First up, this student thinks Digger should have gone with the blue tie/highlighter combo instead of the green:

"Digger: Blue is greater than Green"

This student on the other hand is all about the green, and even started the Digger fan club (notice the very large green highlighter sign):

"Digger fan club"

Enough about Digger, let’s get some shots in on Jay Bilas:

"Jay Bilas can't play Scattergories"

I know Dick Vitale is as old as God, but I’m not sure he’s on his level just yet:

"Dickie V = GOD"

If you’re playing Notre Dame in any sport, you can’t help but give them a hard time about their football program:

"It's OK Notre Dame, you always have football. Oh wait!"

This guy was just begging to be on TV with a silly sign like this…or maybe he was being serious?

"This guy loves math!"

Maya Moore doesn’t seem to like Pat Summit very much (thanks to the UCONN blog for letting me know who this was!):

I don't know how to caption this other than saying "I hate Pat Summit"

Hey pal, sorry if your mom sees this, but that money is most definitely not for “books”:

"Mom, please send money for 'books'"

I believe tent city is where all the students camp out in tents the night before trying to get tickets to a big game.  Ryan, is this something anyone can vote for, or do you have to be a UCONN student?  Let us know and we’ll get our visitors to vote for you.

"Vote Ryan Grace, Mayor of Tent City. Storrs, CT 2010"

You also had your usual signs in the crowd of various players’ faces blown up very large.  One in particular caught That Fan’s eye:

Hmm, not bad, must be a cheerleader, right?  Wrong, it’s a 6-foot forward for the UCONN women’s basketball team (she’s also standing right in the middle of that picture).  Want another glimpse?

That Fan couldn’t help but do some research into who this supermodel of an athlete is.  Turns out it is Meghan Gardler, a senior on the team.  That Fan routinely likes to give presents to our readers in the form of Erin Andrews and Jenn Brown, but we may have our new favorite female athlete.  Okay, we DO have our new favorite female athlete.  Can That Fan turn Meghan into a household name?  Probably not, but we sure will try!

Be sure to check back in the next couple days for the poll allowing you to vote for your favorite sign from this week.  Next week College GameDay will be at Clemson for the Duke/Clemson game.  We will be back with all the signs!  And here is one more shot of Meghan to hold you over until we do a larger write-up on her later this week…

Final College Football Bowl Game Attendance Figures

January 9, 2010

Last week I posted an article that discusses the various drivers of fan attendance at bowl games. If you haven’t read it yet please check it out. I also gave the attendance figures for each of the bowl games that had been played (which was only about half of them), and below I list the final figures for all of this season’s 34 bowl games in order of attendance (winning team listed first):

1.) BCS National Championship (Alabama vs. Texas):  94,906
2.) Rose Bowl (Ohio State vs. Oregon):  93,963
3.) Gator Bowl (Florida State vs. West Virginia):  84,129
4.) Cotton Bowl (Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma State):  77,928
5.) Chick-fil-a Bowl (Virginia Tech vs. Tennessee):  73,777
6.) Fiesta Bowl (Boise State vs. TCU):  73,227
7.) Texas Bowl (Navy vs. Missouri): 69,441
8.) Orange Bowl (Iowa vs. Georgia Tech):  66,131
9.) Sugar Bowl (Florida vs. Cincinnati):  65,207
10.) Alamo Bowl (Texas Tech vs. Michigan State):  64,757
11.) Holiday Bowl (Nebraska vs. Arizona):  64,607
12.) Capital One Bowl (Penn State vs. LSU):  63,025
13.) Liberty Bowl (Arkansas vs. East Carolina):  62,742
14.) Music City Bowl (Clemson vs. Kentucky):  57,280
15.) Champs Sports Bowl (Wisconsin vs. Miami): 56,747
16.) Sun Bowl (Oklahoma vs. Stanford):  53,713
17.) Meineke Car Care Bowl (Pittsburgh vs. North Carolina): 50,389
18.) Independence Bowl (Georgia vs. Texas Tech): 49,653
19.) Outback Bowl (Auburn vs. Northwestern):  49,383
20.) PapaJohns.com Bowl (Connecticut vs. South Carolina):  45,254
21.) Insight Bowl (Iowa State vs. Minnesota):  45,090
22.) Armed Forces Bowl (Air Force vs. Houston):  41,414
23.) Emerald Bowl (USC vs. Boston College): 40,121
24.) Las Vegas Bowl (BYU vs. Oregon State): 40,018
25.) GMAC Bowl (Central Michigan vs. Troy):  34,486
26.) Poinsettia Bowl (Utah vs. California): 32,665
27.) Hawaii Bowl (Southern Methodist vs. Nevada): 32,650
28.) Little Caesars Bowl (Marshall vs. Ohio): 30,311
29.) New Orleans Bowl (Middle Tenn. St. vs. Southern Miss): 30,228
30.) St. Petersburg Bowl (Rutgers vs. Central Florida): 29,763
31.) Humanitarian Bowl (Idaho vs. Bowling Green):  26,726
32.) New Mexico Bowl (Wyoming vs. Fresno State):  24,898
33.) EagleBank Bowl (UCLA vs. Temple):  23,072
34.) International Bowl (South Florida vs. Northern Illinois):  22,185

There are two main items I want to point out.  First, how in the hell was the Texas Bowl, a game which contained exactly zero top 25 teams, the 7th most attended bowl game?  Second, the poor fan turnout at the International Bowl only solidifies the fact that football belongs on this side of the border.  As is the standard here at That Fan, we salute the team at the top of the list, which just so happens to be the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide!  Bama fans, here is your gift (okay, it’s really a gift for all of you!):

2009 College Football Attendance – Week 13

November 30, 2009

Here are the top 5 stadium attendance figures from college football this past weekend (home team listed first):

1)  LSU vs. Arkansas:  W, 33-30  (93,013)

2)  Florida vs. Florida State:  W, 37-10  (90,907)

3)  Auburn vs. Alabama:  L, 26-21  (87,451)

4)  USC vs. UCLA:  W, 28-7  (85,713)

5)  Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State:  W, 27-0  (85,606)

If I missed something let me know.  This week snapped the seven-week streak of Big Ten teams topping the list.  However, the only Big Ten team in action this week was Illinois (and they were on the road), so maybe they should get a free pass.  Look at the rivalry games on this list…I would have loved to have been at any of them.  This week we honor Louisiana State University for being the top attended team…is this a sticker or do companies actually make them like this now??!!

That Fan Website Update

November 22, 2009

Fellow fans, you may or may not have noticed but I moved the site from being hosted at Wordpress, to being hosted at Godaddy (so you will no longer see Wordpress on any of the URLs, rather it will be ThatFan.com).  I have redirected each of the pages from the old site to this site (including any search engine results) so you won’t notice any difference.

One downfall is that I lost my hit counts from the old site which were right around 50,000 hits…not bad for a months worth of blogging (feel free to help me make up for lost time by visiting often and sharing with your friends so I can get my count back up!).

A new feature that you may see are Social links at the bottom of each post that will allow you to share a post via email, Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc.  Please use these and use them often so I can keep growing the site!

There are many unique plans I have for this site that I think all of you will love, but they will take time so be patient with me.  One of the best ways readers can help the site become better is to contribute to the content.  There are several ways you can contribute:

1) Post comments and interact with each other

2) Send pictures for me to post (funny signs, funny shirts, crazy fans, sexy female sports fans, etc.)

3) A trend I’d like to see going is having people send me pictures of them at sporting events, at U.S./world landmarks, with athletes, etc., holding a sign that says “I am That Fan”.  So this week when you are making your sign for you football or basketball games, write that on the back and send me a picture of you holding it at the game!

4) Send me fan-related links to share with everyone

5) Open to writing articles?  I’m willing to allow guest posts so if you have a clever idea about an article for the site, let me know and I’ll more than likely post it.  Want to write a post but don’t know what to write about?  Ask me for an idea, I’ve got hundreds of post ideas.

6) Let me know what you want more of and less of on the site.  The last thing I want this site to be is 100% about college football and College GameDay, but that is what is driving the traffic right now so I must help those in need!

My goal is to make this a site that everyone visits frequently, but I am only as good as my readers expectations, so thank you for reading!  As a special thanks to everyone, I give you a picture of the lovely Jenn Brown (quite a bit of my traffic comes from people Googling her, so I have to give her thanks as well!):
