In case you haven’t seen it, a recent ESPN Page 2 article outlined the “20 things that make you a sports doofus”. I am picking through the list one by one and giving my opinion on each of the 20 items, and then stating whether I agree with the author, or whether the author is the real doofus (you can read prior critiques here: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6). Please be sure to leave a comment with your opinion. By the way, who says the word ‘doofus’ anymore anyway?
Doofus item #7: Proposing via JumboTron
One of the goals of a marriage proposal is to make it occur in an amazing setting so that it can be remembered forever. As sports fans, can we think of any cooler place to get engaged than at our favorite team’s game? Now I’ll admit, doing so would be somewhat selfish, especially if your gal isn’t a sports fan. However, if she’s just as big as a sports fan, not only did you luck out with an awesome wife, but she will probably appreciate the setting just as much as you do!
Having it broadcast on the JumboTron only adds to the moment, and lets the crowd provide an ovation and a “Congratulations” as well. The more I read this guy’s opinions on this list, the more I feel he is bitter towards the world. Who cares if two lovebirds get engaged on the JumboTron at Yankee Stadium? That Fan doesn’t mind it, and we actually encourage it! As a matter of fact, we will probably do a future story on this, so if you got engaged in this manner, let us know!
That Fan verdict: The author is a doofus on this one!
